Car-with-logo At Green Aero Tech we’re believers in people with passion, it’s one of the core attributes of everyone that joins the team – they have to love what they do. That’s also why you could spot our logo on the side of an 80’s Monte Carlo styled hobby race car last weekend.

Last year’s Swift Current Champion, Trevor Monk, sits behind the wheel. Monk’s always had a need for speed and when his friends started to race dirt track he wanted a piece of the action. The races typically draw around 100 racers, with 30 cars racing in three classes. With race dates set all over the summer he travels from his home track in Swift Current, Saskatchewan to Manitoba and Alberta to compete.

With only four years under his belt he’s a relative newbie in on the race circuit, but that obviously hasn’t stopped him. His car has a light weight 2013 Dominator chassie, 350 cubic inch motor, and race shocks – it’s definitely a labour of love. In the hobby class they run stock tires, limiting the speed to around 60-70kms, but it’s not just the thrill of the race that draws Monk to the sport.

Car-on-race-track“Racers are like being part of an extended family,” he explains. “If you break down on the track there’s five people running over to help you. It’s also brought my own family closer together as they all pitch in. My nieces and nephews often come to watch the races and I can hear them cheering me on in the stands.”

With another win under his belt last weekend he certainly gives his family something to talk about at the dinner table. Although racing is the fun part, a lot of Monk’s time is spent in the garage maintaining the car itself. It’s a second job and he doesn’t take it lightly as family, friends, and sponsors have come on board to help support him.

We understand people with passion, drive, and ambition and we’ll be cheering Monk on as he competes in Rimbey, Alberta next weekend.
